OKBADLANDS MINERAL

Best friends Kate Gurren and Sally Latter pay homage to their special relationship with blissful track ‘Mineral’. It’s a lusciously soundscaped piece of jazz-doused, ambient pop that was entirely recorded, arranged and produced by the OKBadlands duo, with a little percussive help from fellow Queensland-based talent Max Byrne (aka Golden Vessel.) Speaking about their long-standing partnership, Latter says “"Friendship is probably our strongest theme. Kate and I have been friends since we were young and played music together in various contexts the whole time we have known each other. So music and our relationship runs parallel. In the same way, we've also developed alongside each other, both as people and in improving at our instruments and learning to produce ... I do think that it's our differences that make both our writing and friendship better." It’s the kind of perfect friendship where you both compliment and challenge each other to be your best selves. That’s most likely why over the years, the Brisbane pair have continued to improve their shatteringly beautiful sound, striking that balance between sweeping pop melodies, jazzy vocals and vivacious electronics. - HT
